SPIE is your partner for energy infrastructures
Our energy system is undergoing fundamental structural changes: the transition from fossil fuels for the generation of energy to renewable energies, which is being accelerated by government policies, must be put into practice. When it comes to energy infrastructure, the control mechanisms for power generation plants need to be optimised, the Europe-wide energy transmission network needs to be improved and intelligent systems (Smart Grids) must be integrated into the distribution networks in order to ensure efficiency and safeguard supply security.
SPIE is a reliable partner in the set up of the necessary energy infrastructure. Even during power generation, our services make sure that ambitious supply targets are met. Given our decades of experience, we are well equipped for the development of the European transmission grid and the set up of intelligent distribution grids. We provide solutions tailored to our clients to help them apply energy optimally.

Design & Engineering

Substation design
When SAG was established in 1997, one of the initial activities of the company was designing 132 kV substations. Our activities include all stages of the work, from the assessment of customer needs to the work-as-executed plan. Our high level of expertise is guaranteed by our employees’ decades of combined experience.
If the client needs feasibility study, connection plan or electrical implementation plan, SPIE Hungaria is always a good choice.
Engineering
After installation and during maintenance, our engineers perform both individual on-site inspections of the equipment components (machines, devices, cables, etc.) and the required on-site measurements of the entire equipment, and the results are documented in a report.

Installation
Substation installation
When SAG was established in 1997, the initial activities of the company were designing and installing 120kV substations. Since then, our activities have been expanded with equipment and complete field maintenance. Our two largest customers are ELMÜ and ÉMÁSZ, with some other major customers including E.ON-owned electricity suppliers. In addition to numerous high/medium voltage and medium/medium voltage substations for suppliers, we have installed several industrial and power plant substations, including applications in renewable energy production. Our high level of expertise is guaranteed by our employees’ decades of combined experience.

Power generation
Our work in the field of conventional power plants at SPIE was initially based on our high voltage substation design and installation activities. Our design and implementation services encompass several fields, from generator terminals to transmission line connections, including control technologies. As main contractor, we offer a full range of services from the network connection plan to the commissioning stage.

Grid design
Grid design includes the preparation of licensing and implementation plans of the above networks, and the legal procedure needed for the establishment of grid lines. Planning is performed with CAD tools (OmegCad and Autocad). All Hungarian electricity suppliers have certified us for both planning and implementation activities. In addition to electricity suppliers, our clientele includes road construction companies.
Installation of distribution grids
Our transmission line business was established by outsourcing the grid installation divisions of ÉMÁSZ. We construct aerial and cable grids from 0.4 kV to 3 5 kV, along with MV/0.4 kV transformer stations. We undertake turnkey construction from substructure building to commissioning, providing all the necessary materials.
Work on living parts
Our company was the first in Hungary (outside of the electricity suppliers themselves) to introduce and use for medium voltage operations the technology enabling works on live equipment. At the time of the introduction, we immediately chose the method with the most potential: the so-called contact method. The largest investment related to the introduction was the acquisition of the insulated machine with lifting basket, and significant resources were also used for training the staff. Currently, we have two teams using combined methods, with two special vehicles.
Applied technology

station cleaning using dry and wet method (22 kV)
station maintenance (22 kV)
Electrical works on highway and road constructions
One of our strengths is the replacement of aerial and cable networks related to road constructions. Our activities involve the re-planning and reconstruction of networks, as well as the energy supply and lighting installation for highway facilities like rest areas, meteorological stations, communications equipment, traffic counting loops, etc. As we are pre-qualified for all Hungarian electricity suppliers, we can perform works at any location in the country.

Installation of transmission lines
With its nearly 100-year experience, the SPIE is the leading provider for planning, assembly, and refurbishing of extra high and high voltage transmission lines, peak voltage and high voltage switchgear facilities and high voltage cable installations. In its own testing and technology centre, SPIE examines components, building groups, and complex system of energy supply and analyses the interaction of individual components and systems.
SPIE is highly prepared to support grid operators in the necessary expansion of the German and European transmission grid. Today, we already support energy suppliers and grid operators in their multitude of supply tasks by providing highly qualified personnel, the latest in technology, and an efficient organisation.

Industrial installation
Our work in the field of industrial applications and power plants at SPIE was initially based on our high voltage substation design and installation activities.
Nowadays this activity is arranged in a new division, called Industry & Building Business Unit.

Bükkábrány Power Plant
SPIE has developed a 33-hectare solar project, the largest in Hungary, in Bükkábrány - together with its consortium partner bejulo. Bükkábrány is in the north of Hungary
The power plant, located to the east of Budapest, which has invested some 16 million euros, consists of 64,000 polycrystalline solar modules with a nominal output of 355 watts each. This allows the environmentally friendly system to supply around 6,500 households with electricity. The green electricity should be commercially available from 1 April, 2019.
